- HB 1164: Removes the STAAR writing test and gives districts control over how to assess writing, including adopting a portfolio assessment. Student performance on writing would be reported to parents and TEA and posted on districts' websites.
- HB 743: Requires that STAAR assessments for grades 3-8 be verified by a third party as valid and reliable and more age-appropriate in length (120 minutess for grades 3-5 and 180 minutes for grades 6-8); also requires a study of TEKS and assessments.
